Upgrading your industrial closed loop brake control unit can significantly enhance operational safety and efficiency. Just like the closed loop systems used in other high-demand environments, your mine’s brake system ensures precise control and reliability under varying conditions. PCS Automation was involved in the upgrade of the brake control system and converters on the Production and Service winders for an industrial client. Below we share some of our considerations, tips and recommendations to help you find the answers for your industrial units. Wherever you are on the African continent or beyond, talk to our team and let us bring your systems up to date.
Project scope - Modern PLC control system

One of our recent contracts involved replacing obsolete equipment with a modern PLC control system and reducing the number of components. We converted the relay logic to software functions within the main PLC using PCS7. The safety of the brake system is now managed by four S7-1500 PLCs. New boxes were installed at each brake post and the brake Hydraulic Power Pack. These boxes collect all caliper and hydraulic signals, transferring them to the relevant PLCs. This approach minimised the installation of new cables and significantly reduced commissioning time.
Improved performance and enhanced safety

Upgrading the closed loop brake control system offers substantial improvements in performance and safety. The modernisation included integrating precision control through advanced PLCs, ensuring optimal brake force adjustment and responsiveness under varying conditions. Overall, this upgrade minimised human error, complied with stringent safety standards, and optimised operational reliability, ensuring both equipment longevity and personnel safety.
Advanced technology increases efficiency

Advanced technology plays a pivotal role in enhancing efficiency within industrial settings. Newer systems not only boast higher efficiency but also effectively mitigate wear and tear on critical components, thereby reducing long-term maintenance costs. When considering upgrades, integrating the latest technologies can be particularly advantageous. PCS Automation has the experience and capability to assist you.
How can we help you and your clients?
